For the last few years, Christ Church West Didsbury & St Paul’s Withington have enabled hundreds of children from Cavendish Road, St Paul’s, Barlow Hall and Old Moat Primary Schools to “Experience Easter”.
In the weeks leading up to Easter this year, both churches hosted and facilitated interactive stations exploring the events of Holy Week, their meaning then and their relevance for us today. The project uses adapted resources from the Diocese of Gloucester and is made possible by a group of lay and ordained adults from the churches.
The stations provided children with opportunities to explore the Entry to Jerusalem, the Last Supper, and Jesus’ final hours before his death.
The story is not left incomplete: the children are given a sneak-preview of what we celebrate on Easter Sunday, seeing the resurrection through the eyes of Mary Magdalene.
Another of our churches in the deanery, St John Brooklands has also run this programme of activities in recent years. We hope to expand this initiative to more churches and schools in the deanery in the coming years.
